Festival WarsawByArt 2018

WarsawByArt 2018

On September 21-23, for the second time, we are given the opportunity to participate in Warsaw by Art, a cultural event that takes place yearly in the capital. Warsaw by Art was created on the initiative of the owners and curators of the Warsaw art galleries with active participation of people involved in shaping the image and content of contemporary Polish culture. Both private galleries and social galleries as well as institutions related to the cultural life of the capital take part in it. Our common goal is broadly understood promotion of contemporary art and building the image of the capital as a culturally rich metropolis and strengthening its competitiveness in Europe. Warsaw by Art has proved that there is a platform for the presentation of an immensely diverse artistic offer in the capital - a model of cooperation of institutions that are competitive from the market point of view has also been developed. First of all, the participants of Warsaw by Art want to create a kind of need and fashion for visiting galleries and institutions presenting exhibitions of contemporary artists. During the weekend of 21-23 September 2018, all galleries participating in this festival of art will be open from 11-21 and each of them, in addition to exhibitions, will offer guests meetings with artists, curators and owners as well as special events such as openings, happenings, shows, film screenings and panel discussions. Warsaw by Art is in its assumption an open project whose goal is to be part of a permanent calendar of cultural events in Warsaw. We believe that just like during the first edition, our initiative will prove to be interesting to gallery visitors and art lovers. We are joining forces in order to contribute to a significant enrichment of the Warsaw cultural offer. We hope that the encounters that take place this year, will result in lasting friendships and the need to learn about the new artistic phenomena presented in galleries throughout the year. Welcome!

Exhibitions WarsawByArt 2018

Zofia Błażko "We" Painting

The exhibition “We” presents a series of portrait paintings of young people, including self-portraits of the artist. The presented works are a continuation of a previous creative endeavour, the center of which is a man with his own unique character and fleeting emotions. Using image as an artistic medium, the artist wishes to enable the viewer to deepen their knowledge of another person. The exhibition is open till 29.09.2018

Karolina Jarosławska, Klaudia Ka - Hidden

How to show the mystery of man or the nature that surrounds him, the intermingling of worlds and ideas? “Hidden” is a painting project prepared by artist-curators: Karolina Jarosławska and Klaudia Ka which refer to sources of art as an attempt to capture the indistinct aspects of reality. According to the concept of “Platonic cave”, the artists believe that by showing things indirectly, like shadows on the walls of the cave, they reach their true meaning. By creating painterly secrets using different techniques, aesthetics and inspiration, they hide symbols and clues in the paintings that, for the viewer-observer, become an impulse to travel inwardly. The exhibition is open till 31.10.2018.

Black on white - Fokt | Jackowska | Remiseiro | Slon | Zawisza.

The show is a carefully thought out project, presenting works of five artists cooperating with the gallery that have two things in common – black and white as the dominating means of colour expression and landscape as the theme. There are various creative personalities who have captured the moment when the object becomes abstract. A. Slon and A. Zawisza, organise the visual reality in an emotional way which does not impose the plot, but focuses on showing the elements of pure painting. In the landscapes of M. Fokt and K. Jackowska the visible world is transformed into abstract structures. The Spanish sculptor F. Remiseiro builds a conceptual inner landscape, based on objects such as a leaf. The exhibition is until 15.10.2018.

Antoni Starowieyski - Works on Paper

Antoni Starowieyski’s Works on Paper – features watercolour studies from different periods and various painting series created by this renowned artist. “For me, works on paper is the beginning of the thinking process about future paintings, even though the final works do not often resemble them”, says Starowieyski. The exhibition presents a number of sketches, for instance from the Horizons and Interiors cycles. The exhibition is open till 30.11.2018.

Design Your Space

In our showroom you can find products of independent, young designers on the one hand, and works created by canons of contemporary industrial design on the other. In an old tenement house in Saska Kępa, you can see, among other things, unique Bubble or Ausum lamps by Alex de Witte or everyday products designed by Stefano Giovannoni and Nika Zupanc. An exhibition of private collections of Dutch design collectors may be considered an added value. The exhibition is open till 23.09.2018.

The aspects of changes. Michał Minor’s paintings

“You leave the house, close the door behind you, still living with that feeling that you are significant. Your own Manhattan deprives you of the illusions. You must face the world. There is no way you can deal with what has happened in the past. Your own shadow shall be your doom”. The exhibition is open till 9.10.2018.

Lithography with music in the background

Andrzej Newelski combines expressionism with elements of nature in his painting and lithography. He distorts and filters through his viewpoint like a hypnotic, color-charged vision from the 1960s and 1970s. For many years, the main interests of the artist have been some of the most prominent figures of the music scene from those decades - not only classics, but also, less known, virtuosi of rock, blues and jazz. Their appeal is in their authenticity which attempts to capture not only the character of the musician, but also the music, as well as the ‘good vibes’ as such. He !!!faces the!!! abstract sound, drawing it into his battle with raw matter. Each work of art from this series could adorn the covers of iconic discs. The exhibition is open till 10.10.2018.

Geometry and beauty

The exhibition is a summary of the 36th international open-air “Geometry and beauty” festival, which took place in Sept. 2018 in Radziejowice. 40 artists from Europe and the USA took part in it. The presented works are a gift for the MCSW “Elektrownia” in Radom, in which the curator of open-air – dr. Bożena Kowalska has been creating her own collection of geometric art for the past 9 years, including 428 works. Both terms “Geometry and beauty” – at the same time characterize this collection. As the authors say – in a world of anxiety, threats and chaos that surrounds us, this kind of art, respecting beauty and order, full of peace and harmony touches a sense of balance, inner silence and reprieve. The exhibition is open till 27.10.2018.

Limbus - Voices of the Forgotten

The acrylic paintings cycle “Limbus – Voices of the Forgotten” refers to Luc Boltanski’s cantata “Les Limbes”. In the work, the French sociologist has created a metaphor of miserable life suspended in a void – as outcasts of society. In the abyss, people wait for selection, hoping that with a positive result of the choice they will be able to leave their current place of residence, start a happy life and enjoy a better social status. The exhibition is open till 31.10.2018.

Jan Tarasin. Find the Worlds

Works on papers and canvas, films from the 70s and 80s, found, and perhaps forgotten by the artist himself. All of them are topics known from later years. We see ladders (pictured also literally), letters, letters arranged in piles, objects forming wide and distant landscapes as well as flames, but rarely used later. The tone of the work was continued in later years but also abandoned. Tarasin found inspiration in everyday objects surrounding him, and in the work of other artists. The exhibition is open till 3.10.2018.

Recalled Items

The Korekta Gallery presents four artists: Tamara Berdowska, Anna Kłos, Dariusz Mlącki, and Leszek Oprządek at the exhibition titled Summoned. The aim of the exhibition is to materialize the idea of artistic freedom of individual artists, and to present their concept of art. We present works in the field of painting, sculpture and collage. The exhibition is open till 14.10.2018

Verifications

The main theme of the exhibition by Weronika Pawłowska is human being portraits maintained in a raw, monochromatic tone. “The human body particularly fascinates me because of its mystery, spiritual element, and universal dimension. In my recent pieces human bodies and their faces are presented in an even more ambiguous way”. The exhibition is open till 5.10.2018.

Again someone walked around our house

The exhibition presents works by Olga Pawłowska, which are largely a continuation of the cycle from over the last three years. The impulse for the creation of the paintings was Feliks Falk’s film “In the middle of summer” from 1975. The director focuses the viewer’s attention on the main heroine of the drama, aptly depicting a growing sense of encirclement. In addition to the characteristic mood of the film, the motif of the house turns out to be equally inspiring for the artist. When painting portraits of individual buildings, she questions the symbolism of the house as a safe place of refuge. The exhibition is open till 14.10.2018.

Ivo Nikić – Cyclodrones

Ivo Nikić’s paintings stimulate the imagination with their form and reveal our artistic longings. As the author says - "they are the experience of everyday life and a reflection on a world that sometimes lives too fast, while consuming and demanding too much”. The exhibition is open till 20.10.2018.

The Greatest Polish Artists of the 20th Century

The exhibition of art created by the most famous modern polish artists such as: Henryk Stażewski, Magdalena Abakanowicz, Stefan Krygier, Władysław Jackiewicz, Teresa Pągowska and leading younger generation artist Marcin Maciejowski. It is our first exhibition in new a place, located in Warsaw, at Emilii Plater 10. The exhibition is open till 2.10.2018.

I Don't Agree With Compromise In Art

Rafał Podgórski’s words are the motto of the exibition of four known graphic artists: Anna Trojanowska, Agata Gertchen, Bartosz Cebula and Rafał Podgórski. They consequently create their works, using chosen graphic techniques, keeping away from too much information and detail, looking for harmony and perfection in creation. Numerous prizes and awards, as international as Polish, are proof of the highest quality of presented works. The exhibition is open till 13.10.2018.

Frozen Scenes

Pragaleria presents a solo exhibition of paintings by Wioleta Rzążewska „Frozen Scenes”. The artist, inspired by old photographs stored in a family album, presents the reality of rural Poland of the ‘40s and ‘50s, creating a nostalgic tale of the need for community, the social role of ritual and dialogue between tradition and modernity. The exhibition is open till 5.10.2018.

Portraits of Contemporary Creators of Polish Culture

Maciej Kłoś creates a „Photographic Encyklopedia of Polish Artists”. New photos are still being created and new faces are chosen by the author. The whole composition presents creatros of Polish culture, e.g.: Danuta Szaflarska, Wiesława Myśliwskiego, Stanisław Sojka and Magda Umer. The artist for a long time was a professional photographer in the Central Photography Agency and after that he worked with Deutsche Presse-Agentur. He has won many prizes in press photography competitions through the years. The exhibition is open till 4.10.2018.

Colours of Sadness

In this exhibition, the author is attempting to express emotions through art. Sad and nostalgic portraits of women are shown in contrasting and energetic colors. Damp stains, splashes, contrast - the form and style of the work refers to graffiti and street art, from which the author draws most inspiration. The artist comes from Warsaw’s blocks of South Praga district. He graduated at the Faculty of Interior Design. The Polish graffiti scene became the companion of the beginnings of his artistic journey. The exhibition is open till 4.10.2018.

Collection of Retroavangarda and Korekta Gallery

As part of a festival to present a collective exhibition of contemporary art. The exhibition showcases mainly abstract graphics and paintings by recognized Polish artists established on the art market. There are, however, also exhibited some pieces by lesser known artists, both native and foreign. Artists presented at the exhibition are as follows: Baranowski / Berdowska / Berdyszak / Berlewi / Brzozowski / Caban / Gieryszewski / Gowik / Grabowski / Kłos / Kamoji / Lebenstein / Mlącki / Nival / Oprządek/ Pągowska / Radke / Rakovic / Rosenstein / Ślusarczyk / Tarasin / Tarasewicz / Verhelst. The exhibition is open till 31.10.2018.

Untranslatable

The artistic creation of Agnieszka Sandomierz is inspired by the observation of body and daily routine. ‘Untranslatable’ presents the image of a body as a permanent process of observation inevitably leading to deconstruction, and separation into small fragments. The artist is in constant, intimate dialogue studying not only herself, but also the artistic process too, which in the end takes us from realism to synthetic decomposition. The exhibition is open till 16.10.2018.

Space, Geometry, Divisions

The exhibition combines two creative visions of artists. The spatial, geometrical, dynamic and color paintings of Aleksandra Łatecka reflect the artist’s interest in space – its construction and dynamics. The geometric, ascetic, mostly black and white, full of contrast and divisions, graphical paintings by Katarzyna Jurczenia, in a symbolic way refer to everyday struggles and impact of reality. The curator of the exhibition is Joanna Pongowska. The exhibition is open till 27.09.2018.

Aspects of abstraction - Janyst | Kowalska | Ledóchowski | Moshnikova

The exhibition shows various artistic attitudes to a well-known and seemingly exploited trend in painting. Not only do the final effects differ, but also the techniques. Each artist presents a variety of ways of creation, using miscellaneous tools and media. The same is with the idea of presented works. The artists interests and inspirations are different, from strictly painting research – gesture, colour and texture; through the deconstruction of the human body or architecture, to the abstract matter as time or information. The exhibition is open till 15.10.2018.
